Real Salt Lake and Minnesota United Play Out to 0-0 Draw in MLS is Back Tournament
LAKE BUEANA VISTA, FL – Real Salt Lake played out to a 0-0 draw against Minnesota United FC on Friday in the MLS is Back Tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World.
The 10:30 pm match was a battle in Group D of the tournament to reach the next round of 16, but with no points earned, neither team was able to make a move. Both teams stand at the top of the group with 4 points, and Sporting KC gained 3 points with its stoppage time win against Colorado. The Rapids remain with 0 points in the tournament.
But this late match was shot on highlights and excitement and the late hour made many of us use wish it was over.
The best scoring chance for either side came in the closing seconds of first-half stoppage time when Minnesota’s quick counter-attack finished with Robin Lod’s left-footed shot that beat RSL goalkeeper Zac MacMath, but rattled off the post.
Five minutes into the second half,Pablo Ruiz fired a long distance shot that forced goalkeeper Tyler Miller into a diving save. Lod was then denied again by MacMath, who dived to get a hand on his low shot.
Real Salt Lake will close the tournament against Sporting KC, and Minnesota will finish against Colorado. Both matches are next Wednesday.
